Kaunergrathütte

Kaunergrathütte

The rustic Kaunergrathütte is the highest situated mountain hut in Pitztal at 2,817 m altitude in the Ötztal Alps: approximately 200 m below the Aperen Madatsch Joch (3,030 m), between the two distinctive ‘hut’ mountains, the Watzespitze peak (3,533 m) and the Verpeilspitze peak (3,425 m).

This mountain hut captivates with its originality and high alpine surroundings. With no ‘goods’ cable lift available, this particular mountain hut is supplied by helicopter only! On its glorious sun terrace, hikers and mountaineers can enjoy open views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers of the Kaunergrat and towards the Geigenkamm ridge that includes the Mainzer high course.

Tip: the Plangeroßkopf (3,056 m) is a 3,000 m peak very close to the mountain hut, which can be reached on foot in approximately 1 hour.
